CAMP SHOUT OUT TRAINING WORKSHOP

Kristin A. Chmela M.A. CCC-SLP, BCS-F develops and implements the Training and Therapeutic program at Camp Shout Out. She is joined by faculty member June H. Campbell M.A. CCC-SLP, BCS-F.

Training for the speech-language pathologists begins prior to the arrival of the campers and continues throughout the camp experience. Training includes lecture, discussion, small group problem solving and practice of speech modification and counseling skills.

Learning objectives include:

  1. Apply evidenced based therapy strategies to assist school-age youth in increasing fluency of speech;
  2. Utilize counseling skills in order to assist school-age youth in talking openly about feelings and attitudes related to stuttering;
  3. Collect pre- and post-treatment data for progress in motor, affective, social, and cognitive domains related to the stuttering problem; and,
  4. Educate parents and others regarding progress across motor, affective, social, and cognitive domains.

How to register

Enrollment opens February 1, 2018. Please fill out the form on the contact us page and a registration link will be emailed to you.

All applications will be reviewed by Kristin Chmela, Training and Therapeutic Director. Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent to applicant within 2 weeks of application submission.

Research shows clinicians are less trained, less experienced, and less confident when working with those who stutter compared to other disorders they treat.
